On yer bike!

Between the 10th and 19th of July 2005, Martin West, manager of Britz, cycled between Lands End and John O'Groats. The cycle ride covered over 900 miles and Martin completed this in just 9 days – that is over 100 miles per day!

The purpose of the ride was to raise money for The Fishermen's Mission. Martin raised £6242.64 for the charity. Below are pictures of Martin at Lands End and at John O'Groats.

The competition is in its fifth year and recognises and celebrates business success. The awards, organised by the Federation of Small Businesses, are given in four categories: businesses with an annual turnover of more than £500,000, businesses with an annual turnover of less than £500,000, new businesses (those who have been trading less than a year), and training excellence.

We'll be 'frying' high...

We'll be 'frying' high in the Fish and Chip Shop of the year competition 2005. We are proud to announce that Britz has got through the first stage.

Thanks to our customers who gave us an average score of 99 out of a possible 100 marks. As from 4th July – 8th September 2005, SeaFish judges will visit our premises to carry out a mystery shop and an inspection of the top ten shops in our area – to find the winner to go through to the next stage.

Martin West of Britz says, "Well, course, our fish and chips should be cooked to a crisp perfection, but the judges and undercover 'mystery shoppers' will also be looking for top quality ingredients, cooking skills and pleasant surroundings. Also extremely important is the friendly, helpful service to the customers. The best shop in each area will be announced and undergo a further detail inspection between 15th September and 15th October 2005, to determine the Regional winners — hopefully that will be us!"

The regional winners will then 'fry' the flag for their region as they 'batter' it out to see who will take away the title at the National Final and Awards Ceremony in January 2006.

Fish and Chips is the country's favourite hot take-away, beating burgers, curries and pizza – proving that this great British institution still takes first 'plaice' in the nation's hearts! The Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Competition is organised by the Seafish and sponsored by the Frozen at Sea Fillets Association (FASFA).
